Bali is quickly becoming a popular vacation destination among Canadians. This warm Indonesian island is a great alternative to the common beach vacation with its amazing white sand beaches to the south of the island.
The cooler, dry season from April to October is the best time to visit Bali. The rest of the year is more humid, cloudier and has more rainstorms, but you can still enjoy your holiday.
Bali is renowned for its diverse art forms such as painting, sculpture, woodcarving, handcrafts, and performing arts. Balinese percussion orchestra music, known as gamelan, is a favorite to hear and see while visiting the island. Balinese dances portray stories from Hindu epics such as the Ramayana but with a heavy Balinese influence.
The major attraction is its beaches. Kuta is the most commercial and the busiest with many shops, restaurants and bars. Sanur is quieter and fairly secluded. Most hotels are isolated from the others. Nusa Dua is more upscale and very organized with a park-like atmosphere. Inland is Ubud with its special charm. It is the artistic and cultural center of Bali and offers much wood carvings and paintings. It is also an excellent alternative to the beach areas. The scenery is lush and very exotic.
English is widely spoken in Bali, which makes the island very accommodated to families, couples, seniors and backpackers alike. Meals and shopping are very inexpensive so the experience of discovering this new destination won’t be intimidating to travelers wanting to try something “different”.
Almost all tour packages put together to Bali already include tours to the different areas of the island. This allows travelers to get a look into the Balinese culture without having the added expense of tours while in destination. You can just sit back, enjoy the beach and be at ease while visiting this relaxed, culture-packed island. |
